With the mark I was gifted and ones I have chosen--
In these moments, I come to you.
I was brought into the world with a stain across my back. That’s what everyone called it, with their eyes if not their lips. Deep blue with brown waves, it blooms from my left shoulder down my ribs, across my spine. Medical promises of it fading quieted faster than in reality–by now I’ve understood it (and love her) as a lifelong companion.
